words i live by.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

i love those words. having a degree in journalism, i can't actually tell you how many times i had to recite this in college. it is actually written on the wall just inside the entrance of Gaylord Hall on the beautiful campus of the University of Oklahoma. a building i spent about 1,000 too many hours in. but every time i walked in. i looked at this...

Those 45 words are, in my opinion, what make our country great. say what you want, believe what you want, stand for what you want, argue for what you believe is right. it's the definition of freedom. and individuality. and the reason i am able to type these words right now. they are wonderful words. but things like this and this make me wish the words "freedom of speech" were followed by an asterisk that meant "unless you are 100% out of line and crazy".

go find something worthwile to fight for. like a cure for cancer.
